We appreciate your efforts in working with us to enforce the tardy policy. As we look ahead to next year, we would like to know what you think about the current policy. What are the pros and cons of the current policy? Any suggestions?
I believe that the current policy is effective and working. Now attention needs to be paid to those students especially during lunch and during fourth period that are hanging out on Harrison Hall. Administrators need to be avialable to catch those students. It is always the sameones walking around all period. Maybe rotating shifts could be done to get those students.
I believe it is good to have a tardy policy but the problem I am having with my students is that they are one to two minutes tardy but once I send them from my room they have to go from science hall to the auditorium to get a pass which means an additional 10-15 minutes that they are out of class. Can there be a more central location or two locations set up?
I am not sure that the tardy issue is our biggest problem. I feel the focus should be on attendance. 5 minutes late I think we as teachers can handle but 30 absences and no accountability is where our proficiency percentages are being hurt. If these students the 10 absences policy was enforced we may lose students but after a 12 month period we would have a population of students that actually wanted to learn and attend school. The harsh reality is that we have to be willing to lower our school population in order to obtain higher EOC proficiency percentages. Just my thoughts.
Typo on the above blog. " If these students" should just say, " If the ten absences policy was enforced we may lose students, but after a 12 month period we would have a population of students that actually wanted to learn and attend school."
I would like to suggest that when students sign in that they place their teachers name down as well. This will further hold the student accountable and hopefully eliminate students constantly walking around with passes.
